The election of Pope Leo XIV marks a new phase in the Catholic Church’s journey, bringing fresh emphases and theological approaches to ecclesiology - its identity, mission, and engagement with the world. The international seminar “New Pope – New Ecclesiology?” offers a platform for reflection on the Church’s possible new directions under his leadership.

With the Church’s global presence, the conference also addresses urgent challenges - referred to as rerum novarum (“new things”) - including artificial intelligence (AI), digitalization, conflict, migration, inequality, ecological crisis, secularism, moral relativism, declining trust in ecclesial institutions, interreligious tensions, spiritual fatigue, and vocation crises.

Theologians from various continents contribute context-based reflections rooted in the Gospel and Church Tradition, seeking ways for the Church to respond faithfully and effectively to today’s pressing issues.
